Self-Esteem
Esteem derives from the respect and admiration we have for people. Now, add the word "self" before it, and it becomes the respect and regard we have for ourselves. It is the assurance we carry within ourselves, or the lack thereof, which is based on our self-perceived worth or capabilities, including our appearance, beliefs, emotions and inherent qualities. Oftentimes, the experiences we've had throughout our lifetime shape our self-esteem and help us measure our worth, hence forming an opinion of ourselves, commonly categorized as low, high or healthy self esteem.
So why is this important again?
This self-perception can influence our sense of value and can serve as a driving factor in many of our life choices and decisions.
The better our self-esteem, the more likely we are to make the efforts necessary in exploring our full potential. We become confident in our abilities. As we become more confident, we begin to believe we deserve a better life. We aspire to healthier relationships, fulfilling careers or businesses, better living situations, a healthier lifestyle etc. Whatever it is our heart desires. The sky becomes the limit.
The key is to challenge and adjust our negative thoughts into positive ones. This is where the practice of self-care comes into play. It serves as a crucial element in improving our mental health and developing cognitive skills that can transform our attitudes and thought processes.
Yea, it all starts with the MIND.
